Centrifugal Extractor Fans

What Are Centrifugal Extractor Fans?

If you have a bathroom in your home, chances are you know what centrifugal extractor fans are.  They are more commonly known in the United States as a bathroom fan.  You may have wondered what they actually do or why they are in the bathroom.  Centrifugal extractor fans are fans that take the moisture out of the air.  When you take a shower you will notice that the steam from the shower fills up the bathroom.  These fans that are usually installed in the ceiling will take the steamy air and remove the moisture from it.

You can find these fans at most home improvement retail stores and they can be found in may shapes, colors and styles.  Most typically you will find them in white in a rectangular or square shaped and commonly with a light fixture.  However, you can also find them with a more decorative look so that you don't have it compromise functionality for beauty.  You can find them in bronze, brass and also brushed nickel.  They can also come in round shapes and may or may not have a light fixture.

When shopping for a centrifugal extractor fan you may take a few other features into consideration.  First, these fans are measured in "sones".  The higher the sone the louder the fan is.  Most fans range between 2 - 3.9, but you can find them louder or softer.  Air volume will also play a part in your choice.  Air volume will measure how much air can be moved and is measured in cubic feet per minute.  The rule of thumb is 1 CFM per 1 square foot of bathroom space.  So if your bathroom measure 10 x 12, you have 120 square feet so the fan you purchase should be at least 120 CFM.

Bathrooms aren't the only place for centrifugal extractor fans.  You can find roof centrifugal extractor fans in many industrial buildings.  These fans are much larger but are used for a similar reason.  To remove the moisture from the air.  These are commonly used in warehouses to protect the stocked product from excessive moisture.
